Art Scene: Aspects By Waleed Marhoum

"Aspects" was the title for Saudi Artist Waleed Marhoum's exhibition at L'Art Pur in Riyadh.

"أبعاد" كان عنوان معرض الفنان السعودي وليد المرحوم في معرض الفن النقي في الرياض.

As promised, I will be taking you through as many art exhibitions as I can attend in my hometown.I was blessed this passed week to have been invited by L'Art Pur to attend the opening of Saudi Artist Waleed Marhoum's exhibition,"Aspects".

مثل ما وعدتكم، راح آخذكم معاي على أكثر من معرض من اللي اقدر أحضرهم في مدينتي. الحمد لله جتني دعوة من معرض الفن النقي عشان أحضر افتتاح معرض الفنان السعودي وليد المرحوم "أبعاد".

Now being new to this (blogging about Art) I have to admit I was a little intimidated talking to the artist himself at the event! I don't even know if there are blogs about Art!! So I just walked around the gallery, took the pictures and waited for my wing person to maybe show up and save the day,save me actually, but sadly that didn't happen!!

When I went back home and came to writing this post I realized what a big mistake that was!!I didn't have much to say!! I decided to give the artist a call. And he very graciously answered my question about the name of the exhibition.

"The exhibition is about different aspects, places, outlooks, distances whether they are close or far." stated the artist. "It is about different visions from different places that have the same source which is the beauty of Nature, whether it is here locally or internationally, whether it's rocks, tress or water. The main idea here is how there can be diversity but the beauty is one, and the source is one. "

لأن الموضوع جديد علي (التدوين عن الفن) فلازم اعترف إني إستحيت أروح أكلم الفنان شخصياً في المعرض! مو لأني ما عرف أكلم الناس، بس لأني ما أعرف اذا في شي إسمه تدوين عن الفن!! فرحت تفرجت على اللوح وصورت المعرض واستنيت الشخص اللي ممكن يعرفنا بس ما صار!!

ولما رجت البيت وحاولت أكتب هذا البوست أكتشفت غلطي، لأن ما عرفت وش أكتب!! فقمت وجبت كرته وقلت أكلمه وان شاء الله يرد. وفعلاً رد وكان جدا مرحب وجاوب على سؤالي عن اسم المعرض.

"المعرض من اسمه يعبر عن اختلاف أماكن، مناظير، أشياء دقيقة، أشياء قريبة، أشياد بعيدة." شرح لي الفنان. "هي روئ مختلفة من أماكن مختلفة وكلها تتمحور حول جمال الطبيعة، سواءً هنا أو برا، سواءً صخر أو شجر أو موية. الفكرة الأساسية هي التعددية لكن الجمال واحد، والمصدر واحد."

Looking around the gallery that is what you see. Oddly enough I liked the artwork in the B&W versions. They looked sharper and had me staring at the details longer. Maybe it was me but I also saw different shapes in the images like the silhouette of people!

You might have to go and see for yourselves if you live in Riyadh, the exhibition is on going until March, 19th at L'Art Pur. 

وهذا هو اللي تشوفها في اللوحات. شخصياً أنا حبيت الأعمال الأبيض والأسود أكثر من الملونين. كنت أشوف التفاصيل فيهم أكثر وخلوني أتأملهم وقت أطول. ،الغريب إني كنت أشوف فيهم أشكال ثانية على هيئة ناس مثلاً! ما أدري إذا أحد ثاني شاف نفس الشي أو بس أنا!

اللي ساكنين في الرياض يمديهم يروحون ويشوفون بنفسهم لأن المعرض مستمر لين ١٩ مارس في معرض الفن النقي.
