Creative Japan Fashion Fair

Remember when I mentioned "Meet Japan"?!
Well Harvey Nichols Riyadh made the effort to bring the Japanese experience to home, sitting down with Japan Fashion Week Organization (JFWO) through both the Ministry of Economy,Trade and Industry(METI), and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). And "Creative Japan Fashion Fair" was born.
The Event was on Monday the 25th at 7:30 at Harvey Nichols Riyadh, and it will stay on until March 10th.
For some reason, the whole town was out on the streets that night!!Really people?!
Instead of getting in half hour earlier I barely made it to the opening!!And I wasn't even trying to be fashionably late.
Thank YOU!!!
It was one of those nights when a helicopter would've been so much more convenient. Or some police escort.

Anyways. Lets talk about the event.
There was a showcase of the fashion designers on the 2nd floor of the store. Then you get to go to the 3rd level for the rest of the showcase of Apparel, fashion accessories, Interior accessories and fun stationary.

 In total; there were around 20 brands present;
A DEGREE FAHRENHEIT, FUGAHUM, GASBOOK, MOTONARI ONO, PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE, SOMARTA, TSUMORI CHISATO, ASUMI BIJOUX, BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKE, CHISO, COQUETTE, E.M, FURIFU, KEIKO KUROISHI, Q-POT. , AMABRO, HANA HYAKU YO, SWATi, WASARA, TOKYU HANDS
I was going to name a few, but why not give them all the same chance to be recognized. Some of you might know a few names or maybe you will know none. Now it's your turn to research the brands you don't. Or if you are in Riyadh, go to Harvey Nichols and take a closer look.

Wished I took a picture of the front of this Abaya to the left. It was very creative.
Done by a Saudi brand; RK. Worn by the designer herself, Reem ALKanhal.
Looks like Marriam Mossalli of Niche Arabia is introducing Reem to A Degree Fahrenheit Designer Yu Amatsu who was shyly walking around. I wouldn't blame him. The place was packed.
I liked that they had a good selection. There was the casual, monochromatic, brights and the colorful. Whatever your style, you can come out with something.
All without needing a passport, or having to suffer from Jet-lag.

The wall print was by Artist Teppei Marki.
He used 4 Manga characters of the artist Osamu Tezuka : Astro Boy, Princess Knight, Jungle Emperor and Black Jack.
What is Japanese creativity, without a little animation!

One of my favorite colors worn as a Abaya.
Designed and worn by NO.sh Designer, Nora ALalshaikh.

BAO BAO bags by Issy Miyake are back. Love the mirrored clutch.

 Love these Tee's.
The way the brand has it's name done, interesting and eye-catching.
I dare you to guess it!!
Here is a closer look for you..Give it a try.
Hint, it starts from right to left.

Can I snatch this vintage-looking case?!
Don't worry, I can take care of all that is in it for you.

By the End of the night there was the highlight.
A calligraphy piece that was done with golden Ink by artist Tokuko Ozawa.
She had done her Abaya with the same ink. Just that morning we got to take a private class of calligraphy at the Arts and Skills Institute (ASI), and it was just plain black.
Creativity has no boundaries.
She asked us to help her think positively, and she choose the word " Heart" to be the word written with the golden ink.

While waiting for the ink to dry, she was kind enough to write the names of a few of us (me included) in Japanese calligraphy.
The only downside to the event was that it was too packed for us to mingle with the Japanese crowd. Some were shy, do to the fact that they didn't speak English. So they stayed around those that did, just in case they needed interpretation.
But I still got to meet great people, that were nice enough to share their experiences and offer advices. Thank you AlAnoud, saudi designer behind the label; NOOD Designs. It was a pleasure meeting you.

Thank You Harvey Nichols Riyadh for this experience.
